An interactive map at vancouver2010.com shows the route the torch will travel in the region, with approximate stop times along the way.

The torch arrives in Surrey on Monday, Feb. 8 and continues through White Rock and North Delta on Tuesday, Feb. 9 before leaving for New Westminster, Richmond and, on Friday, Feb. 12, the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics at BC Place Stadium.

In Surrey, 175 people will carry the torch through the city over the two days, including five nominated"Community" torchbearers: Olympic swimmer Brittany Reimer of Cloverdale, Newton-raised pro baseball player Adam Loewen, Global television meteorologist Mark Madryga, Chief Supt. Fraser MacRae of Surrey
RCMP and Queen Elizabeth Secondary grad Monty Raisinghani.

The full list of names of torchbearers won't be made public until 48 to 36 hours before their scheduled 300-metre turn with the flame. Across Canada, some 12,000 people will carry the metre-long white torch on the epic, 45,000-kilometre journey of the Olympic flame to Vancouver.In gaps between communities along the route, the flame is carried in a special lantern in a vehicle, with police escort.



MONDAY, FEB. 8

On Monday, Feb. 8, Surrey's leg of the torch run begins at around 2:40 p.m. in Cloverdale, on Highway 10 at 180th Street. Hundreds of school kids will greet the torch as it passes by Surrey Museum, at 177th Street.

Day 102 of the torch run continues to 152nd Street and on to 60th Avenue. The flame will reach Surrey's city hall at 3:30 p.m. before it moves through streets of Newton, Fleetwood and Guildford. At around 7 p.m., the torch will stop at Holland Park in Whalley for a big community event that starts at 5:30 and will include fireworks and live entertainment.

TUESDAY, FEB. 9


On Tuesday, Feb. 9, day 103 of the torch run begins in Surrey at 6:12 a.m. near Highway 99 and 32nd Avenue. From there it travels south on 152nd Street to the area around Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.

White Rock marks the torch relay with a Tourism White Rock-hosted "Community Celebration of the Flame" event at 6:30 a.m. at White Rock Museum. The flame will move along Johnston Road, Roper Avenue, Fir Street and Buena Vista Avenue before making its way to the beach, along Marine Drive toward Semiahmoo Park, where it will stop at around 7:22 a.m.

From there, the torch travels to the Peace Arch border crossing, with an event set to begin at 7:30 a.m.

Later that morning in North Delta, the torch will be carried along 112th Street starting at 8:43 a.m., from around 73rd Avenue. It will cross Nordel Way and onto 90th Avenue, around Delview Park and stop at Scott Road at around 9:30 a.m., at 92nd Avenue. From there, it moves back into Surrey, past Robson Park, onto 104th Avenue, 132nd Street and on to King George Highway, where the relay stops at 10:26 a.m. before moving on to New Westminster. Torchbearer Laura Cuthbert will carry the flame on a paddlewheeler across the Fraser River.

Some schools in North Delta are, depending on their location, opening earlier or later on Feb. 9 to allow students to experience the torch run. Celebrations are planned for North Delta rec centre at 9 a.m.
