PHOENIX (AP) - A Vancouver man suspected of killing his estranged
wife in her suburban Phoenix home before fleeing to his home country
India is being sought by police.
Concerned co-workers went to Navneet Kaur's home Friday and saw blood and signs of a struggle, said Det. Bob Ragsdale, a Phoenix police spokesman. Officers found the 30-year-old dead in the house.
Detectives believe her estranged husband attacked her Thursday, Ragsdale said. Avtar Grewal, who lives in Vancouver, was seen at the home that evening. Ragsdale said evidence inside the house ties him to the crime.
Kaur was planning to divorce Grewal, Ragsdale said.
Police tracked Grewal, 32, to a Phoenix airport, where they discovered he had flown to Newark, N.J., and then bought a one-way ticket to New Delhi, India. They confirmed he arrived in India.
Homicide detectives working with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office obtained an international warrant for Grewal's arrest, Ragsdale said. Officials are working with authorities in India to detain Grewal and will seek his extradition.
