Supporters and family of Manjit Panghali were in court Thursday for an appearance by her husband Mukhtiar Panghali and his younger brother Sukhvinder Panghali.

Mukhtiar, 35, is charged with the second-degree murder of Manjit and improperly interfering with a dead body. Sukhvinder, 27, is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and interfering with a dead body.

Mukhtiar and Sukhvinder entered the court room together, keeping eye contact with the judge. Proceedings lasted only a few moments, with the next court date set for April 12.

For Manjit’s sister, Jasmine Bhambra, seeing the accused was an emotional experience.

“I can’t even explain it,” she said after the court appearance. “I have no words.”

Manjit’s badly burned body was discovered on the side of a truck road in South Delta last October, a few days after Mukhtiar reported her missing. She was four months pregnant with her second child.

“We’re just happy there’s been arrests made,” Bhambra said.
