Rumours of arrests in the case of murdered school teacher Manjit
Panghali are swirling in the Lower Mainland's Indo-Canadian community.
Radio India reported Friday that the victim's husband, Mukhtiar Panghali, and his brother, Sukhvinder Panghali, have been arrested.
Radio India host Ravinder Gill told The Province a reliable source confirmed that Mukhtiar was picked up by police at about 5:30 p.m. Friday and that his brother was arrested later that night.
Sources have also told The Province that police promised Manjit's relatives a briefing Friday night but did not make contact. The family has since gone into seclusion and is not commenting. Mukhtiar's relatives in Merritt and Surrey did not reply to messages.
There are also questions today about the whereabouts of the couple's three-year-old daughter, Maya.
The Province has learned that Manjit's family will likely be in court tomorrow to seek custody of the child, who is believed to be in the company of Mukhtiar's parents.
Delta Police will neither confirm nor deny the reports on Radio India, referring all media calls instead to a briefing slated for tomorrow.
