Charges laid in Surrey hit-and-run case

A father and son have been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that took the life of an 18-year-old Surrey youth last summer.

Lemar Faquirzada was struck head-on by a car at the intersection of 96th Avenue and 152nd Street in Surrey at 12:20 a.m. while crossing against the "Don't walk" sign at a crosswalk. The car fled the scene.

Surrey RCMP announced today that their year-long investigation has culminated in charges of failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving death, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm, against 30-year-old Jessie Paul Sanghera. His father, Major Iqbal Sanghera, has been charged with public mischief and fraud under $5,000.
