'I am a suspect,' admits husband
Baljinder Singh Bahia says he is a suspect in the cold-blooded murder of his wife but is working with police to clear his name.
"I am a suspect. I am still working with the police," the 37-year-old Cloverdale blueberry farmer said yesterday after the emotional funeral of his wife, Amanpreet, 33.
Relatives clung to her coffin, and at least one woman had to be dragged away so the casket could be closed and moved to the crematorium at the Five Rivers funeral home in Delta.
"The whole family is suspect," said Bahia. "I am helping the RCMP. As soon as they call me, I am over there helping them out."
Asked if he and his parents have offered to take a lie-detector test, he replied: "Yes, we did. We haven't done it yet. I would go for it, yeah."
Bahia said he last saw his wife at their Panorama Ridge home, which the couple shared with his parents, at 7:35 a.m. on Feb. 7, the day she was killed with what he called a "sharp object."
