Never Forget 1984
Each year in June, Sikhs across the globe remember the genocide of
Sikhs in India in 1984. In Vancouver, it has become an annual tradition
to gather in Downtown Vancouver at the Vancouver Art Gallery and light
a candle in remembrance of those who lost their lives in Operation Blue
Star and remember the day our most central faith places were reduced to
rubble.
This years Candle Light Vigil will take place on Saturday June 9th at
7:30pm at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Special guest speakers include
Harinder Singh from the Sikh Research Institute in Texas, Jasmine Kaur
from ENSAAF, and Parminder Singh president of the Canadian Organization
of Sikh Students. There will also be special multimedia presentations
commemorating the events of June 1984. In addition to focusing on
remembrance, this year's event will also highlight the positive work
still continuing to this day on a scholarly and intellectual manner.
