Vancouver and Surrey will each be holding Nager Kirtans in their respective cities today to celebrate the harvest and the day that Sikhs acquired their identity.

Spokespersons for both temples have expressed interest in creating better communications for future parade dates. It had been decided that every other year each temple would claim the long weekend date in April to host the parade in their city, however this year, the temples had pre-booked weddings and could not change the dates, resulting in two parades.  Hopefully, next year they can sort out the dates so crowd revelers can attend both parades.

In Vancouver, parade starts at the Ross Street Temple, goes up Main Street, along 49th Ave, it will then turn right onto Fraser St. and head back to the temple along 57th Ave.

In Surrey, parade starts at Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar at 12885 85th ave head up onto 128th st, along 76ave and then up on 124th st, then 82nd ave back towards the temple.

The streets will be filled with much colour, sound and great food, a great celebration to see our diversity and multi-cultures.  I'm sure there will be plenty of politicians out and about getting their 2cents in, being that elections are just around the corner.

Happy Vaisakhi!
