The pain was etched on the faces of the family of missing teen Harnake Olak after a body was dragged from the Fraser River Thursday morning.

Huddled around, comforting each other on the Dyke Road riverbank, they still didn't get the closure they had been desperately seeking.

The RCMP allowed Olak's parents to view the body found by a passerby floating close to the shore between No. 4 and No. 5 roads about 11 a.m.

But the parents, Pommy and Major, weren't sure it was their son, according to Olak's sister, Aman.

"My parents did get to see the body," she said.

"But they couldn't be certain. That's all we know."

The body was taken away from the scene where dozens of family and friends were waiting patiently for any news.

On Thursday afternoon, as the News went to press, the RCMP could only confirm the body was that of a male

Olak, 17, went missing a week ago upriver from where the body was discovered.

He was swimming in the early hours of the morning in a restricted area of the Fraser River. The teenager is thought to have jumped into the water to try and save a female friend who'd gotten into trouble.

"No identification will be made until after the autopsy," Cpl. Nycki Basra said.

"There appears to be no foul play involved. It could be (Olak) but we can't confirm that at this stage."

Olak's sister and cousin, Jenny Gosal, thanked everyone who'd helped search for Olak in the last week.

"We'd like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone," Aman said.

"Your support has been incredible."

The RCMP and Coast Guard called off the search for Olak Saturday who is missing and feared drowned. The strong tides and current may have swept away the young man, who lived near Cambie and No. 5 roads.

Since his disappearance, his family and friends have refused to give up hope and even organized their own search team using a seaplane, boats, Sea-Doos and divers.

For the last week, more than 50 people have been searching the coast everyday since his disappearance.

A CIBC bank account has been set up by the family for anyone interested in donating funds to help with the search. The transit number is 03900 and the account number is 3275434.

Depending on the results of the autopsy, the family is calling on people to help them with a massive search party Saturday at the south arm of the Fraser River.

The family  has confirmed that a body found on the shores of the Fraser River Thursday is that of 17-year-old Nick Olak.

A candlelight vigal ceremony is scheduled for Saturday August 23rd, 2008 @ 7:30pm at the dock behind Famous Players at the end of Steveston Hwy & No. 6 Road.
